My checklist for a family lunch out is great food, reasonably priced and a place that has something to keep littles ones entertained. I’m pleased to report that Urban Tea House in Bearwood ticks all of the boxes. We recently popped along to this new café for a review visit.
Urban Tea House has only been open for a few months and is already making a name for themselves, especially amongst local parents. The café offers a lunch style menu of both sandwiches and toasties as well as a selection of hot Taiwanese dishes. There is also a great choice of drinks on offer. As well as a decent tea selection, there is also a range of speciality coffees, milkshakes and bubble teas. The menu offers great value for money, the vast majority of the food options come in at between £3 and £4.
Another great draw of Urban Tea House for families is the well equipped play area at the back of the café. There is a lovely brightly coloured enclosed area for smaller children as well as a play kitchen area. Mini enjoyed playing whilst waiting for her food to arrive. The café also offers children’s plates and cutlery.
Mini was very happy to discover that the large elephant and giraffe that were in the play area, can also be bought to your table to use as a chair. She chose the giraffe and was very pleased that she got to eat her lunch sitting on a giant giraffe!
When you walk into Urban Tea House you can’t help but help admiring their beautiful flower wall that adorns one side of the café. Mini declared it was the poshest café she’s ever seen to have flowers covering the walls. It definitely is a beautiful touch and very insta worthy.
To eat, Mini chose a ham and cheese sandwich, which she was pleased to see arrived minus the crusts, and a mango milkshake. Mr Mack and I decided to try some of the Taiwanese options. I went for the Teppanyaki Chicken and Rice and Mr Mack picked the Stir Fry Noodles with Crispy Vegetables. We also shared a portion of Chicken and Vegetable Dumplings. All of the food was delicious, hot and fresh. I enjoyed all of the dishes however, my favourite was the dumplings which had a great meaty flavour. The dishes were a great portion size for a lunch, although you could share a few if you had a larger appetite.
To drink Mr Mack had a Japanese Green Tea, which was served in a stunning tea pot. I went for the Brown Sugar Bubble Milk, which was super creamy and sweet, it was almost a dessert in itself. There was a decent selection of desserts available, including bubble waffles and ice cream. The people at the table next to us had one, and the smell drifting over was very tempting. We decided we were too full to do one justice but will definitely be back soon to test them out. Mini found a small spot in her tummy for dessert and chose two Macaroons, which in her words were “totally delicious.”
Urban Tea House was a big hit with Team Mack. The food was good and it was great to try something different for a change. I’m sure the great children’s facilities will continue to make this café an attraction option for families in the local area.
